Militär Maria-Theresien-Orden 1859-1914
During this period the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was involved in two major wars: The Franco-Austrian or Second War of Italian Independence of 1859 and the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 which also saw the Monarchy again fighting in Italy against a now unified Italian army. Additionally the army was involved in policing its gains in the Balkans and the occupation of Bosnia in the 1860s and 1870s and these actions also resulted in the award of a small number of Military Maria Theresa Orders. By the outbreak of the First World War only three living persons still possessed the Order including Kaiser Franz Josef as the Grand Master of the Order and two foreign Knights: Alphons Graf von Caserta and Ernst Duke of Cumberland. The last surviving Austro-Hungarian Knight had been General der Infanterie Géza Freiherr Fejérváry de Komlás-Keresztes who died on the 25th of April 1914 having won his order for actions as a General Staff captain at the battle of Solferino in 1859. The Promotions during this period ran from Number 158 on the 17th October 1859 to Number 170 on 2nd May 1879. The awards are listed by Promotion or award date and grade.
