At the outbreak of the war in August 1914 the establishment of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Infantry stood at four regiments each of four battalions and one battalion of Jäger. During the course of the war four more regiments (5 - 8) and seven independent Jäger battalions were raised numbered 2 - 8 although by June 1918 battalions 5 - 8 had been incorporated into the new regiments and all the regiments were now three battalions strong. The Bosniaken earned a formidable reputation on the southwestern front during the Isonzo fighting and the following photographs show members of this elite band during the war. We are particularly grateful to Mladen Lukic for providing the images of Oberleutnant Mijo Lukic and Leutnant Mihovil Vujicic seen in the following photographs.
